2net Embedded Control Server

The 2net Embedded Control Server allows you to control, monitor and manage embedded devices from any mainstream Web browser. At its heart is a compact Web server designed from the ground up for embedded systems. It can serve up static pages like any Web server, but its prime function is to create dynamic HTML from information collected by the sensors attached to the device.

The 2net Embedded Control Server is available on DOS and Linux platforms. Embedded DOS is cost effective, well known and uses little memory. DOS based solutions have been implemented on 16 bit 8086 processors with only 512K bytes of RAM. Linux, on the other hand, has a richer set of facilities for communication. Either solution has the same 2net functions.

Virtual Control Panel

Using Java applets to monitor and change Control Variables means that the Web browser can participate directly in the control loop. Push buttons, sliders and text boxes can be easily dropped into a Web page to create a virtual control panel like the one shown.

Remote Control Centre

The Remote Control Centre is an integrated CGI program which allows you to manage a remote system. It can tell you how long the server has been running, the number of hits, the number of failed login attempts, and more. In addition there is a file browser through which you can see files on the device, download them or upload them, for example for field upgrade. All from the comfort of your browser and without having to install any FTP client software.

Features

  • Full featured Web server: works with all standard browsers

  • HTTP 1.0 GET, HEAD and POST methods
  • Handles all types of Web content, including HTML, GIF, JPEG and Java applets
  • CGI interface allows HTML forms to set parameters in the host control program
  • File transfer using forms (RFC 1867)
  • Innovative Control Variable Protocol (CVP) allows system state information to be shared with browsers and other servers in real-time
  • Java applets provide animated switches and dials to interact with Control Variables, creating a "virtual control panel" within the web browser
  • Server Side Include (SSI) support for embedding Control Variables in HTML pages.
  • User authentication via HTTP standard (Base64 encoded) authentication
  • Multiple authentication realms restrict access to a single page, a group of pages or a CGI application
  • Remote Control Centre for system status and file upload/download without installing an FTP client
